Subject: Clientlocation not working (IP Location)
Hello all

I am getting problems with on google loader client location. Their
sample page http://gmaps-samples.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/clientlocation/clientlo...
shows the default United States view when I visit it, BUT if I go to a
geo IP locate page such as: http://www.ip2location.com/ my location is
displayed correctly.

If my location can be estimated from my IP by ip2location then why is
google.loader.ClientLocation not able to ?

Thanks in advance

Kelson

Different services will give different results, probably because they
are using different data sets for the lookup?

http://www.ip2location.com puts me about 9 miles from where I actually
am, Google about 103 miles.
Last time I tried the Google Clientlocation a few months ago it didn't
know at all, so they are working on it.

I guess that Google just doesn't know where your IP is supposed to be.

Wasn't it ProbablyMike who wrote:

It's fairly common for UK ISPs to not reveal the locations of their
subscribers. In such cases ip2location.com may report the location of
the ISP (which isn't particularly useful) and Google may report nothing.

I live in the USA and have had terrible results in Google
clientlocation to reverse locate me via my IP address.

Every other services like IP2Location, Yahoo, Live can find me within
about 10 miles. But Google simply has no idea where I'm located.  Very
frustrating.
