Subject: Future Melbourne + public wireless planning
You may have seen the Future Melbourne online collaboration wiki-based
project being run by the City of Melbourne local government - I
stumbled upon it via Laurel's blog post today, and I've also posted
about it on The RiotACT quickly and will shortly in more detail on my
own blog as well as Free Canberra Wireless.

For the active Free Australia Wireless members in Melbourne, I would
strongly encourage you to get involved in this project, particularly
the discussions on "Pathway 4.4 – Make Melbourne a wired city":

... and promote Free Australia Wireless as an enabler of this outcome,
for the creation of public wifi hotspots - or rather in our case, the
slightly more ambitious creation of city-wide mesh networks.

If no one from Melbourne wants to take this on then I will - though I
may be frowned on for participating in discussions on the future of
Melbourne when I live in Canberra - but anyway, this is a good
opportunity.
