Last Sunday, Keith Brown of Echuca had a massive stroke, and I have just learned tonight that he passed away peacefully last night.
Keith, with wife Margaret, were avid and prolific mineral collectors. Anyone dropping in at their farm were astonished at the amount of material in cases, avacado boxes, buckets and more in their house, sheds, garage and dairy. They were like grandparents to our kids, and we spent many weekends enjoying their company.
Unfortunately due to health issues, they had to dispose of the majority of their collection a couple of years ago. This was hearbreaking for Margaret in particular. Museum Victoria in particular, benefited from a number of boxes of Lake Boga material. I still have fond memories of Keith spending four hours extracting a single golden calcite specimen from very tough basalt at Bundoora. He didn't let it get the better of him.
The funeral will be held at the Echuca Community Church, 13 Rose Street, Echuca, on Tuesday 23rd at 11am. I will be there.
Keith will be missed.
Regards
Steve
