Yep, TF2 has automatic downloads after a map change, which is fine with many TF2 add-on levels being less than 10Mb and rarely over 20Mb.
L4D add-on campaigns (which are typically 4 or 5 levels in 3 or 4 stages) are usually over 100Mb and average around 250MB (I saw one over a Gb!) so even on a fast connection they'd take a while to download :) -- Alfie [UK] <http://www.delphia.co.uk/> What happens if you install windows 98 on a system with 2 processors? It crashes twice.

The icons at the side of the available game list tells you if you have the map already as well.
(4 icon) original campaign (wrench) add-on campaign, installed (down arrow) add-on campaign, not installed
Add-ons are listed after original campaigns, which might mean many don't scroll down and notice the new maps at the bottom.
Don't forget modders have only realistically had 3-4 months with the proper tools to make new content so it's only recently that it's common to see many different add-on games running. -- Alfie [UK] <http://www.delphia.co.uk/> Why is a Failed marriage like a hurricane? I personally like '7 Hours Later', 'Death Stop', 'Suicide Blitz', and 'Vienna Calling'.
'Night Terror' is fun but fantastical (the Mines of Moria map for instance), some don't seem to like that.
I only played 'Death Aboard' SP and found that quite tough with the multi-leap-frogging hunters early on. Haven't convinced my reg group to play it VS yet :) -- Alfie [UK] <http://www.delphia.co.uk/> It's Not Fair! - You say that so often, I wonder what's your basis for comparison?

As Alfie says, these can be big downloads... people would probably be happy to download offline, if only they new these mods existed and were being run on servers near to them. All these lobby/matchmaking systems are descended from consoles where there is little or no modded content; whereas it is a fundamental part of PC gaming...

Well just get the demo and play it for free!! lol Ive been playing it quite a bit. Sure the level and weapons are limited but provides a quick blast for a weekend night and ... well it is free!! Judging from the demo I wont be buying it as its jst too fast and frenetic for me but its fun for a few hours at a time.
