I think that the docs for the aux keyboard strip were in a
supplemental manual that came with the strip. (or manual insert). IIRC
without programming the strip, the keys returned '0' to '9'. I don't remember a single ROM for that purpose. My system had a
"Paymar" Lower Case Adapter which was a daughterboard that fit into
the ROM socket. The original ROM was placed into one of the sockets on
the daughterboard. Part of the board was an outrigger which routed
some additional signals to the board.

Right. That's the problem which I've noticed with the few indices I have
seen on the web so far: they all lack comprehensiveness. This is likely due
to the fact the creators of these indices do not have access to the complete
set of Byte volumes. Granted, I myself do not have access to volume 1, but

I think I already know the answer to this, but thought I'd ask
anyway. Is there any way that the CB card can display 80 col on a VGA
on an Apple ][+ (with or without a Videx card)? I'm guessing no
because if I understand correctly, the CB simply interprets the video
signals that are available on the apple //e. For a ][+, it is handled

The sad thing is, that would cover most of the magazine's prime.
There'd be a few more years of interesting articles, but by about
'87 things started to decline so there were fewer memorable articles.
Once the covers became the latest "IBM Compatible" month after month,
there was a lot less worth remembering.

Well the cumulative index I just mentioned in another post actually
categorized the articles, which is pretty useful. And the titles
don't always reflect the content. For instance, some of Steve Ciarcia's
projects were either completely for the Apple II or relevant to the Apple
II, yet that often was not in the title.

The problem, I believe, is twofold. One, the IIgs is using
dithering... deliberately displaying, as Michael pointed out,
alternating lines of different colors in order to phosphor mix a new
one. The Ambery is faithfully showing these lines, but your monitor
isn't doing the mixing (as a low dot pitch crt would have).

Amigas provide a video signal that is closely NTSC-compliant. I think it's an
easier problem.

Ah ok, it's been so long since I seen the Finder, I don't really
recall how it should look. I had interpreted "crapped out" as no sync/
no display. Well, I think given my intended usage, the Ambery box
still meets my needs so I'm going to keep it until the GS2VGA solution
becomes available. Bummer! I'll send an email to Ambery and see if

Spor, see all those alternating lines that Michael points out?
That's what I meant by "crapping out" on the 16mhz (640x200) video.
You do get video, and decent b&w video at that, but I personally find
the striping unacceptable.
jS

Somebody from the newsgroup sent me an email a couple of months ago
asking for help with the CFFA card. I unfortuantley accidently deleted
the email and have not been able to find it. If that person would like
to email me again, I would be happy to reply.
Best regards,
Adam Hall

All the vertical stripes are the problem with 16MHz. Ideally it would
be a non-distracting solid light blue (produced by a 16MHz dither
between dark blue and white [8MHz fundamental]).
-michael
NadaNet and AppleCrate II: parallel computing for Apple II computers!
Home page: [link]
