Is this a PD thing or the INIT supplied with the Sonic Blaster software?

Have you tried it with the Zip disabled?

Yip. I'll compile a list. Anyone who has any more problems, post them or mail them to me and I'll compile a list of them and post the list in a couple of days.

In case you missed it, Marble Madness IS compatible with ZIP GS. It isn't, however, compatable with the Apple High Speed SCSI card.
>Just curious... what's GSVT?
GSVT is a terminal program that emulates Tektronics 4010 graphics and VT100 commands. I actually suspect that this problem might be a compatability problem with system software 5.0.4 (but I'm not very certain).

This is a PD INIT by Guy T. Rice. I have a Sonic Blaster and don't remember getting an INIT, did you?
>>before cutting it off (which I attribute to the speed of the ZIP >>itself))> >Have you tried it with the Zip disabled?
Yes, it works with the Zip disabled as long as the Zip CDev and Zip Init are not in the system.setup folder.

GSVT is a VT-100 emulator for the GS.
As for a compatibility list, isn't there a small one included in the Zip GSX documentation? It covers most hardware and many well-known commercial packages. The only program that I have heard to be incompatible with the Zip GS is the software for America Online. However, when I purchased the above mentioned package, I found that it worked fine!

I just got a Zip GSX 9MHz a few days ago and have had no problems with it so far, including with the America Online software. I think that the Zip INCOMPATABILITY list (much shorter than a compatability list...) should become part of the Frequently Asked Questions post.
Speaking of America Online, I wonder if they will do any sort of upgrading of the end-user software when System 6.0 comes out. If not, I hope I won't have any trouble moving Mac stuff to/from my //gs to my Mac at work (ie programs and such...I know I can already transfer binary/ascii text). -- Kevin S. I used to have two ZipGS's -- each 10mhz 64k split cache. America Online worked splendidly with them. Unfortunately, with one Zip, I couldn't get a simple catalog under ORCA to work and if I could get AWGS out of the splash screen, it would crash the moment I tried to scroll a word processing document. With the other ZipGS, catalog under ORCA worked fine, however, AWGS still crashed at the same spot and I couldn't get Allison to digitize in color. (Yes, I tried nearly every combination of switch settings.)
I have since returned the boards to Zip and I'm awaiting receipt of one that works. The people at Zip have been very kind, though -- they say they are going to credit my credit card until I get one that works. Fortunately I'm still accelerated since my TWGS works fine.

If you're talking about America Online software, you shouldn't have had to purchase it. It's free. Now, way back when, AppleLink Personal Edition was a buy me product.

Do you know if you were using v.1.02 ZIP or v.1.01? There are still some 1.01's out there (I found this out the hard way) that have lots of problems with certain programs. Also, what's the problem with AWGS? I haven't noticed anything wrong.

Ha, they (Quantum) haven't sounded like they were in a position to maintain what they already provided for the Apple II, much less enhance it. My bug reports (AOL program traps to monitor reproducably under certain conditions, such as on the second attempt to download after interrupting a first attempt) invariably have resulted in suggestions about my hardware, including the infamous lines "AOL won't work with TWGS" (but it does) and "you have to run it from the floppy we supplied, not a hard disk" (also incorrect). I wonder if the AOL "support" staff knows anything at all about the innards of the Apple II version of their program.

As someone who has called customer support with bug reports to see if the postings on AO about the level of support given by the Customer Service Reps. were true, I can report that it really depends on who you get. There are a couple of people in the support wing that do know a little about the Apple II.
The bottom line is this: Yup. You're right. Reproducable bugs exist. Some times I still get bitten. It doesn't make me feel good, either, but I live with it and just try not to do the same thing again. Is that good? No, it's not; it's the only solution I know of right now. Believe me when I say that Quantum (not necessarily the CR's) knows of 99.9% of the bugs.
Will Quantum fix the bugs? Got me. I know I want them fixed!
