Subject: [OT] Central Coast Broadband
Hey Coasties.

A friend of mine is looking at switching broadband providers and asked
for advice. I'm using Comcen, but couldn't really recommend them. It's
great when it works, but support is kinda meh. So I thought I'd take a
quick informal survey.

1) Who are you using for broadband?

2) What service? ADSL, ADSL2, ADSL+

3) Would you recommend them?

cheers,
Ben

Hey

I'm using TPG and have been for about 2 years. They're good, I've only had a
few outages. I'm only on ADSL 1 at the moment. At the Avoca Beach exchange
nearby Optus has enabled ADSL2 I believe, but TPG doesn't use them. If I
were to change I'd probably go with Internode. They're supposed to be good,
although I think they're a little pricier.

Check this survey out: http://whirlpool.net.au/survey/2007/

Cya,
Dylan

Hi Ben,

I'm using People Telecom.  They used to be Swiftel when I switched to
broadband about 4 years ago.  I went with them then because they had
the cheapest plan for the coast.  I've been too lazy to compare People
Telecom to other providers recently.  I think I'm on ADSL2.  I have
regular outages that just require me to reboot the modem but I don't
think these are caused by PT.  They've been helpful when I've needed
support but I wouldn't recommend them without checking out other
providers first.

Mum's at Koolewong, which is on a RIM with no pairs left... so she's
on a Vodafone 3G donger.

No, it drops out a lot, which annoys mum's skype addiction and thus me ;)

There was another wireless alternative http://cirruscomms.com.au but I
don't know anything about them

I think a friend of mine was with Cirrus and they changed the plans at some
point and stuffed him around. He wasn't happy and left, I think.. might be
wrong.

Hey,
I'm at North Avoca,

I switched from drOptus about two weeks ago to Internode,

I've gone for the Naked ADSL 2.

No drop outs to report of yet. Support is awesome they ring you back and are
very helpful and patient.

Would definitely recommend Internode.

Hey Trevor,

Very interesting! Are you using that in combination with NodePhone? I'm
curious about the quality of the VOIP service.

Cheers,
Lawrence

Hey Lawrence,
Sorry mate can't help ya with that one, I didn't go for the NodePhone. No
need for it in our household.

Cheers

prob too late to join in this round, but i've been with TPG for several
years (dont remember how many... > 6, but < 10) and 4 different
locations around the central coast. adsl 1500/256 with fixed IP.  i
don't actually _want_ to recommend them, and i'd like to bitch about
them, cause they're like really corporate and its cool to bitch about
your isp. but i really don't think they've ever let me down, so yeah,
thats a recommendation.
