Fawkner Festival last Sunday

Hi all,

Just a note to let you know that the BUG had a small presence at the
Fawkner Festival last Sunday, spreading the word about our activities
and cycling in general. The Moreland Energy Foundation (Limited) very
kindly let us share their stall (thanks to Michael, Jessica and

A program called Spokes in the Wheel, which operates out of Engineers
Without Borders, is running a bike program for kids from Sudan living in
Melbourne. The program includes fixing up second hand bikes for the kids,

One more sleep till the Fawkner Festival! Should be a bit of fun.

If anyone would like to ride together in a suitably relaxed manner I
propose to depart from outside the Railway Hotel (a.k.a. 'Noise Bar',
located where the Upfield Shared Path crosses Albert Street, MEL 29

I appreciate the concerns about posting political press releases, however I
think it is generally ok practice when the release is directly related to
actions of the BUG, and the Moreland cycling community. The press release
acknowledges the BUG for its work, and lets us know the public information

Fawkner Festival Sunday 15 Nov

The Fawkner Festival is a community festival with music, stalls, food,
children’s activities and rides. The Festival is organised by a
committee of residents and representatives of local community groups.

This year's Festival will be held on Sunday 15 November 2009 from 11am
to 4pm at the new venue of Moomba Park, McBryde Street, Fawkner.

Hey Rick,

Thanks for the post. What if the line is something like whether we reckon
it helps Morlandonians pedal. Personally, I am happy for press releases
from political parties - any/all of them if it helps my community pedal more
(even if I have wade through the promotion speak).

I tend not to get involved in the email discussions, but i just wanted
to weigh in on this one.

While the news that more money is being committed to build cycling
infrastructure is indeed great news, I'm not sure that we want to get
into the habit of posting press releases submitted by politicians.

Nicholas Elliot, Transport Projects Officer at Moreland City Council,
has just informed me there are works due to commence on the Western
Ring Road Path due to bridge works at Wallace/Jack Roper Reserves.
The works are to begin on 23 November, but Nicholas does not know when
they are due to finish.
