Subject: BBC NEWS | UK | Magazine | Are women cyclists in more danger than men?

Hi everyone,

Here is the gender split in a very grim manifestation indeed.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/8296971.stm

I find this article fascinating for quite a few reasons as well as
the main statistic. To mention just a few:
1) The fact that an in depth discussion like this is in the
mainstream media at all - are things just a little bit closer to the
boil in the UK?
2) Openly canvassing the suggestion that perhaps breaking certain
road rules on occasion (including running red lights!) might in fact
enhance safety (the article says this conclusion was in a 2007
Transport for London internal report.)
3) Sustrans, the UK 'sustainable transport charity' take the gender
split seriously seriously enough to establish http://
www.bikebelles.org.uk/

etc.

See you soon,

Bill.
