Dear Dharma
My boy was diagnosed at age 4 and by age 6 the aggressiveness was getting very bad. He attend Autism Qld which helped although the aggressiveness didn't get any better. We attended a child psychiatrist and medication was reluctantly agreed upon. It changed our lives. He was the same boy we loved but no longer aggressive with violent outbursts, and he was just so happy that he wasn't angry all the time. He is now 8 and unfortunately the medication needs fine tuning or something but we are going this week to see if there is something else to help him with.

 Hi there,

I also had some trouble getting my son diagnosed. I took him to the
Paediatrician a couple of times who said he may "come around"
eventually and was reluctant to diagnose. It wasn't until we saw a
Child Psychiatrist that he was officially diagnosed at 3 years 2
months old.

We did it through the Qld Health system.

I have my son on the waiting list at AEIOU in Park Ridge. We are
going to attend an interview and hopefully he will have a place next
year. If you are interested, I would strongly suggest submitting
their waiting list application as soon as you can as I'm not sure how
long the waiting list is.

Im not sure what part hearts and minds play but they should direct you to
Autism Qld for help and therapy. You do have to call them and
become a member but hearts and minds should also send them a letter. This is
what happened when our 6 year old was diagnosed by a
specialist. Hope this helps. K Haynes

 Hi Melissa,

You wont get this in time as AQ are being a little tardy with posting onto
this site !
God what an uproar by the locals !! I just think that they have totally
overreacted and are being completely absurd !!
But given that you have to deal with them ....
Sew the lining into the togs - It does not really matter if it works or not.

 Hi Melissa

My name is Sheryl and I have been an intergration aid for 7 yrs to Corey a ASD 10yr old boy. We also live in a very small country town and have our fair share of ignorant people.

I so feel for you and Kaleb and it all sounds terribly upsetting .

I can only see the idea of the discrete pad sowed into the swimsuit working at least temporarily until the fuss dies down and it will. This will be all behind you and forgotten soon. I would try not to make a big deal or show your overly upset in front of your son. Explain to him in simple and short sentances maybe along the lines of Kaleb you must tell (carers name) when you have had a poo in your pants and you have to wait and put it in the toilet because it makes the pool dirty and you can,t swim in it. Then deal with the pool people. Hope this helps. After a while I would take away the pad.
