Subject: Lilly Pilly burnt leaves and branches
I hope someone can help with this query please.

I have two Lilly Pillies, one 1.5 metres tall and the other about 2
metres high.

Both copped it badly with our high temps last week and the leaves are
burnt (brown) and the stems look sizzled as well. It's not all over
the plant, but at least 50%.

What should I do? leave them and do nothing and wait to see where the
new growth comes, then take of the dead leaves, or prune it now,
removing all the brown leaves & branches?

This link shows the two plants and the extent of the damage (go to
photo gallery):

Many thanks

I treat burnt leaves the same as frost damage, I leave them alone for
if they are removed and another hot day comes along the new or lower
leaves will be burnt and the plant may die.

Yeah I would wait until the hot weather was over and then give them a
bit of a tidy up, and feed with a native fertiliser. Do you have
frosts in your area? I live in the south east of south australia and
Lilly Pilly's struggle with the frosts. Have given up on them.

Once the cooler weather starts, I would be trying one of the liquid
seaweed products to see if that helps. I have had good results with
kickstarting many ailing native plants. And yes, don't prune till the
cooler weather either.
