Hi All
We had to go back through the area of Friday's storm on Saturday afternoon.

We found that there were still many SES and Electricity trucks working through that area in Church Point.

I guess that a lot of people will or will not be happy with their new open views.

The piles of broken trees are growing on the roadside.

The Guinness Book thrives on them. Of course they are notable at the time, but they will break again. OK maybe heat ones will break more often, but in spite of everything that's said we really don't know. This is not to be taken as a commentary on whether or not we should manage pollution etc etc better (we've always had that responsibility), but rather as a comment that we just panic too much about it all. There's more to live for than worrying ourselves to death (as a lot of people do when the media fire up), especially when, like me, you are over 60 years of age and wanting to make the most of what time remains.

The southernmost coastal fringe of Victoria has got off relatively lightly (if an anomaly of +6 can be considered 'lightly') from this month's heat. Some of it might even miss out on a record hot November; I doubt if many other parts of the state will.

As of yesterday Murray Bridge and Roseworthy were running 6.2 degrees ahead of their record high monthly mean maximum for November. While a cool couple of days with the current rain event will put a bit of a dent in the figure, the mean temperature for November so far would, if it happened in January, rank fourth-highest on record for SA, and 12th for Victoria.

Certainly a mad day weather and fire wise in Canberra yesterday. Dust, smoke, thunder, lightning rain plus record temps. I'm wondering whether November might create some sort of record in terms of how far temps exceed averages? Shall keep a weather eye on this aspect of the record breaking heat.
