Subject: Super High.

Hi all rather staggered to see pending for the latter part of the coming week a bloody big super high south of Perth estimated to reach 1046hpa, bad for southern WA but good for us Vics with a good cold air field spreading over southeast Aust Thursday....Not sure what the records are for high pressure in the Australian region but 1046 will get pretty close to the highest pressures I have seen in the Australian region for a long time, I do recall a high pressure in the late 60's maybe reaching 1048 in the Australian Bight during August but cant recall the year...regards Clyve H

There was a 1046 high over Tasmania in June 1967, and more recently, I saw one at 1042 in the western Bight, probably about 10 years ago..can't remember. But spare a thought for the Falkland Islands..one July some years back they had 1052mb..and it's Lat 55° S.

It hasn't rained in Perth for 14 days, and could be fine all this week
- just the chance of a shower. I would expect that must be getting
close to a record for winter.

We are very lucky that this monster high is over the SW of OZ (where
autumn/winter rainfall has been OK) rather than over the SE where our
autumn/winter rainfall was a shocker.

Latest progs suggest this monster might park itself across the whole
of OZ come the end of the week. A few days off, so hopefully the progs
flip.

Currently, OZ is in the running for its driest August on record, and
even in the "wet" parts things aren't really that wet - eg Melbourne
CBD is just half of the average.

Locally we still need 30mm to average in the Dandenongs, and I'm not
totally confident we will get it..
