I have just noticed a nice little cell complex tracking SE through
Mortlake and Warnambool with a sustained black core in the 250km radar
reflection. When saying sustained, i mean a 1 hour loop.
Heres hoping that the trend continues for the evening.

I am glad to hear you say that Tony, because I took this pic with my
video camera at approximately 2121 looking south westish from Mortlake
towards the otway cell
Because of how far away I was, the image is somewhat unclear. This
'funnel' went on for about 3 minutes, that is 3 minutes from the time I
noticed it because I was focussing on another cell that was at Mortlake
at the time.
I have other image captures and video that I need to go through, when I
do I will share them and seek some opinions...

This was a cell that caught my interest due to the sustained black
rain core reflection on the Melbourne radar. Now that i think of it, I
didn't have a look at the doppler wind reflection which may have shown
an interesting picture.
Although, as the cell moved SE it began showing a very distinct hook
reflection. This was most obvious about 30km SW of Colac on the radar.
As the cell continued towards Apollo bay/ Cape Otway the hook slowly
diminished over 3 to 4 frames in an anti clockwise pattern. As it came
into Weeaproinah it turned into a large mass of heavy rain on the
radar images.
It was interesting to watch on the PC but i envy those of you who have
the opportunity to be able to track down these systems/cells in
person.

The funnel was a long distance away as you can tell by the radar image,
the appearance of a hook on the radar image is not in the location
where I noticed the funnel.

The cell SE of your location Shane, is definately the storm i am
speaking of. The hook is harder to destinguish on the 256km radar
image but as it came into the 128km range it was clearly visible.
Also comparing the cell tracking to the whereabouts of Carlisle river
on mapping i believe that it would have impacted within that location
Lindsay.
