Subject: Will It Rain Or Not

Hi All
I am watching the Terry Hills Radar and the cloud seems to be coming from the east to the west????

The cat is yowling and generally being very troublesome..............   She really is a good indicator of approaching weather.

I wonder if we are going to get a tremendous downpour or nothing.

This morning Adam drove a bus to the University of NSW.  He rang me and told me that he had been driving in sunshine and fast approaching this white misty thing across the road up ahead.  Turned out that it was absolutely torrential rain around about Kensington.  He has never seen the road dry and wet like that.  Must have been like driving into a waterfall.  I can find out the time and location later if anyone is interested.

Better still, imagine standing on the dry side next to that kind of rainfall, now that would have been an experience.  Of course no pictures because he was driving.  Bussy will appreciate that one.

Judy

You probably will get a drenching, Judy. The sky out here (when not clouded right over) has had this misty look, like some sort of haze only it's not dust or anything like that. We have one of these nomadic upper troughs that are going to be a law unto themselves, I suspect. The rain that was expected to increase both last night and this morning still hasn't eventuated here apart from a few spits..so it's not going to do what it's supposed to by the looks. Flood warnings out again for the north coast...I hope the forecast for them is wrong given the recent deluge there.

There was also an interesting curved stationary convergence (don't know what else it would have been) stretching from Gosford to just SE of Sydney offshore this morning on radar.

Cheers..Keith

The weather about 2 k's off the beach looked absolutely incredible this morning.  It was pouring down out there and the water was churned up by the wind.  The angle of the sun was perfect and a couple of times the sky turned as dark as a summer thunder storm at Doonside.......Kings Langley. That was when the sun appeared for a couple of short minutes.

When the sky did turn dark it was curved around us and looked so threatening, I was convinced that we would get a good soaking before we walked home.  I saw the cloud out to sea on the radar before leaving and it was apparent where it was when the sky changed colour.

We have not even had one drop of rain all day on us though.  We cannot see the ocean from the house, so we had no idea what was going on out there after he got to the top of the hill, but at last sight it was still pouring with rain out there.
Judy

Hi Judy,

Not sure if you're already know about this page but if not, you might find it a useful guide to likely rainfall: http://www.bom.gov.au/jsp/watl/rainfall/pme.jsp ... automatically generated by a number of models. If you also want to get an idea of rain probabilities, you can just click the Chance Of Rainfall option near the top.

There's been signs since last week of an upper trough amplifying over NSW over the next few days (as Keith mentioned) and probably cut off a low over NE NSW/SE QLD... bringing further decent rains to NE NSW, with some extending along the QLD coast (http://www.bom.gov.au/fwo/IDYPME04/20091105_20091108/pme1to4.png). We're getting severe thunderstorms over the ranges just W of Brisbane atm.

Ken.

One of my favourite sites..though not much joy for Sydney..I shouldn't complain as I got 142mm in October but it would be good if we got more for our catchments. The dams aren't exactly full yet...not Warragamba anyway. Would be good to see SE Qld get a good follow-up.
