Forgot to add, some other noteworthy aspects was the RAAF Amberley speci during one of the storms:
TTF SPECI YAMB 050919Z 24032KT 0200 0100W HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS WITH RAIN SCT003 BKN035CB OVC070 16/16 Q1020 RMK RF23.0/034.8
... it showed 23mm fell in the 10mins leading up to 0927z with vis down to 100m to the west (200m in the other sectors)
One passed over the Ipswich City webcam equipped with audio and it was incredible to watch it - close strikes, explosive thunder, torrential rain for a long time.
The forecast soundings for this area have been looking very interesting - we have one of our classic "sleepless night" setups with backing NE-NW wind structure, warm air advection/upslide, deep moisture and unusually high instability through the o/night hrs into tomorrow. We usually end up with a big thundery rainy mass west of Brisbane which slowly marches E... and combines with lines of convection streaming in from the NE over Bris forming later at night. The result is often heavy thundery rain into the night (sometimes overnight into the morning). Woudn't be surprised if we got more rain than originally expected from this setup. Spectacular cloud-cloud lightning here atm.

Just a few highlights so far from the current storms here: tennis ball size hail (7cm diameter) was reported near Allora on the Darling Downs W of Brisbane, 70mm of rain fell in 30mins near Laidley W of Brisbane, numerous other reports and TV footage (attached) of hail elsewhere in the region making the ground white. Strong icy cold gusts with a marked gust front were also a feature of these cells. Got some small trees felled here. About 10,000 blacked out.
