Some diabolical officiating in the first half had me (and even the English commontaters) scratching my head. Having said that, it actually looked (for the first 15 or so) the ref was keen to, at least, show advantage to NZ. He balanced that with sone bonehead calls against, in the end. Both sides had their desperate and dodgy plays and players. The French still suck.

Bad luck? That was shit. No use going to a game and forgetting to front up.
The ref was ok. Could have ruled the PTB better, but he was no worse than anything else I've seen this year.
On the upside, we've blooded a lot of young kids so the future looks pretty good.

Full credit to New Zealand for being man enough to help develop more international referees. It's certainly something that needs commitment on given the cowardice shown by Ausfailure in this matter.
For mine the England team deserved the win. They've got a good team going and a coach who knows how to take on a World Champion team and win.
I'm sure most people would regard this match as the real final because of the way Ausfailure has played up to now.
The tournament was organised to favour one off wins rather than the more credible format of 2 games against each opponent as we have been used to but of course this kind of format severely hampered Ausfailure who have been done over by both New Zealand and England recently.
Hopefully Ausfailure will be able to make the final interesting, even if it's doubtful that they will even turn up.
England go into the final with every chance of winning it. Tim Sheens will have to work out a way to polish a turd if his pack of whinging losers are to have any hope at all.
The big disappointment for Ausfailure of course is that they still haven't been able to beat the World Champions in this tournament.

I'd give more credit to England than that. They had a lot to play for and proved that they are up to it. I can see them knocking Ausfailure off without much trouble.

I've only seen some NR-Hell matches and the standard there is definitely third world, which is to be expected. I went to a game in Leeds when up there this year (and put a curse on the Headingly Cricket Ground that seems to have worked) and saw Leeds play Bradford. Great refereeing and a full house as well.
We need more international standard referees like the Kiwis, poms and French because these Aussie ones are just so sub-standard.

Very good in fact. New Zealand's place at the top on international rugby league looks set for the next decade.
The other point is that with the current abysmal form of Ausfailure sports generally the game needs more than just New Zealand in good form to be competitive.
A great result for the international game all round, and next weeks win by England should give the New Zealander's enough motivation to bounce back better than ever next time.
Unless Ausfailure cheat their green and yellow guts out again next week it's a case of England by plenty.

No probs giving England more credit, but to be fair, we were bad.

Good point.
Even with being able to have two of them per game, they still have a very poor standard. The situation is so bad that, sometimes they give the more hopeless ones two games in a weekend just in the hope they might actually improve.

Indeed.

Australia do look to be on a downward spiral.
Lucky to get a point against the 3rd placed Kiwis and then only playing one half against the Poms. Beat France, but then so did NZ and Eng.

I think the Aussies will be a bit too good for them, but then if England can apply the same pressure they put on NZ, then you never know.

I'm picking they'll provide a bit of insurance just in case.

The French only have one international-level ref (M Alibert), and the British don't have enough top-level refs to have two on the field for internationals and Super League.

One of the things that I like about rugby league when it is played well, by whoever, is that a key tactic is not letting the opposition play their game against you. We've learned how to do that to poor old Ausfailure and are now the top league country in the universe. When you are number one it's only right that the opposition sides focus on your strengths, in our case many of them, and plan ways to beat you.
England was smart enough to do that, Ausfailure of course played like the morons they are and failed. Again.

Aussie refs suffer from the same problem as Aussie rugby league players, they think they only have to turn up in order to earn their paychecks. This lazy bludger mentality is rife in the Ausfailure economy.
I said at the time of the two ref trials that all that would happen is that it would give the refs someone else to blame when they stuffed up, and wouldn't you know it, I was 150% right yet again.

I wondered what France was doing in this tournament but then I realised that Ausfailure probably insisted on it so they could beat someone at something somewhere sometime.

Ausfailure has that glorious backline, easily the most talented backline I've ever seen. The same backline that lost the world cup in fact. As Kearney has shown repeatedly that backline can look limper than AB's wanger at half time if you shut the forwards down good and proper. There is no doubt in anyone's mind that had New Zealand not been dominated so thoroughly by the brilliant England pack New Zealand would have won the four nations final by 50. All England have to do is play the same game against Ausfailure as they played against New Zealand. The Ausfailure forward pack will be sh!tting bricks and rightly so.
They've gone into this tournament with the usual mindset and expected a chance to replay the world cup final against the unbeatable Kiwis. They'll be relaxed about facing England, an completely vulnerable.
Ausfailure have everything to lose this weekend. If England beat them they move to 3rd in the world and England moves up to second place. England has nothing to lose, and everything to play for. And they have the tapes of how easy it is to beat Ausfailure, and they've done it recently and can do it again.
