more bike bashing ?

"Runaway road toll blamed on rise in motorcycle use" (article below)
So, 94 extra deaths than last year, of which the increased motorcycle
deaths represents less than a quarter (21 increase).
Take out the bicycles (increase of 8..more than doubled..) and still
left with a conclusion that runaway road toll should be blamed on rise

There was a known fault with the Gen 1 bikes which was caused by
excessive valve guider wear. It seems predominantly on US and Canadian
models . There was I believe a factory repair carried out under warranty .
Maybe this one got away as it was stored for a long period .

I'd heard people whinging about RD's appetite for 'plugs but after feeding a
points-model H1 (500) and S2 (350) Kwakka-triple I found RDs (350s in my
case) were ASTOUNDING in their dependability!

So I was riding the Mighty Scooter home from work. Fire up OK, was a
bit hesitant riding up the little hill to Epping road, seemed to
clear, then stopped.

It's the valve guides not the seals. Anyway long periods of inactivity may
cause the stem seals to harden thus not seal and allow oil down the guide.
This would increase oil consumption, leave carbon on the piston crown and

I have a cloth patch on my Firey jacket, but I had to get a
certificate before I could sew on the patch.
