I am sooo waiting for someone to run with that line.

Good call. It must suck being vertically challenged. My friends girlfriend has dropped a couple of bikes for similar reasons. I don't have long legs but can leg press 400 kilos which has saved my arse from similar fates a few times. : )

Surely you are old enough to have been wearing platform shoes in the seventies. You should have kept a pair. I tried to but my wife threw them out. Try a retro shop.

Theo.
LOL, yeah, I had some whopping great things that made me all tall and willowy in my Staggers jeans, bwahahaha! Trying to imagine, though, how a pair of rope-soled 5' heeled slip ons would go on the bike. I reckon I might have a few 'issues' getting the toe end of my foot UNDER the gear shifter to change up... and I suspect my knees would be up my nose most of the time!

Fraser
Sheeeeit, Fraser - 400kgs? About 20 years ago when I was a gym instructor I could press 120kgs and I thought that was pretty damned good for a 52kg girl. These days, with my lack of fitness and dodgy bloody leg, I hate to think how much lower body strength I don't have any more... Haven't tried any leg presses for years, but attempted hamstrng curls the other day, and on my bad leg I managed a pathetic set of 12 reps at 1.5kgs, then 3 reps of a second set before the leg cramped up in absolute agony. One point five bloody kilos *sob*... and I still can't run, 18 months after the incident...
betty, who wants to learn how to handle a bike on gravel/unsealed road, but needs to build up some leg strength first.

Heel toe rocker pedal gear change. As standard on Italian bikes for years....
Seat height problems, needing a heel toe... you need a Guzzi you do!

Bloody hell, would you hit your head on the ceiling? Or even low bridges?

OMG. Elsie, you evil cow..... I am now so confused.... Perhaps if I go metric... all of this is starting to feel like 'The Emperors New Clothes' and everyone (maybe even ME) will feel?SEE that I'm taller if I go to an HD dealer- or maybe they will think worse of me, and wonder which inch I actually got - aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh - and all I wanted was for my feet to touch the ground.

I've heard it's not the size that's important; it's what it you do with it. I'd suggest you're doing the wrong thing if your arse is getting bruised!
(I'm sure if I got serious and went over that bike I could get another inch out of it without making it unrideable. Pity you're a squillion miles away!)

Betty, it's possible to have the seat narrowed rather than cut down lower. It's just as effective and more comfie cos you still have the padding under you.
It's been a while since I've ridden an SV, so I can't recall how much extra width is there at the tank end of the seat, but many bikes do have an abundance of unnecessary side padding. Removing it makes a lot of difference to how easily your tootsies can reach terra firma.
