Hi - quick question. I see that there is a column for rocks in the
soil description but cannot see that SoilWat reads any values in (that
I have found). Do values in that column have any effect? Or should I
be entering stone-corrected water contents? Thanks, Val

In particular, the science part is good background training material on checking the sensibility of simulations.

John Hargreaves
CSIRO Sustainable Ecosystems,
203 Tor Street, Toowoomba, Qld, Australia. 4350
PO Box 102, Toowoomba, Qld, Australia. 4350

Flow_no3 is the total nitrate N flowing out the bottom of each soil
layer. Flows are positive down. The negative value therefore means
you have a small upward flow into the layer. This is likely due to
unsaturated flow of water upwards due to gradients in soil moisture
content. This flow of water will take some NO3 with it.

 HI John

Yeah I run into order issues all the time. Really frustrating. I'm not
sure why report is before most other modules in APSIM. I can't really
see why we can't make report last. There must be a reason though why
we made it the way it is...

Dean

Thanks Dean. The simple sample I constructed for you worked so will sort out what went wrong with the original.

I then tried a harvesting tab and ran into the order problem mentioned in an earlier post. Outputfile receives the harvesting event before the manager components, which is a shame - don't see why outputfile shouldn't be last, do you? A workaround is to have the harvest tab send a reportevent which outputfile can then report on but seems a bit convoluted and may have problems if there are other harvest tabs.

I have manager logic for Maize -

if (stage = 10.0 ) then
act_mods maturity
endif
And a logic component with a tab named 'maturity' without quotes.
Manager code calculating harvest index in this tab is not being executed.

Tracker has a variable - "date of maturity as maturity_date"
and maturity_date is output correctly so it appears act_mods is publishing a maturity event.

 Dean:
My regional settings were set to mm/dd/yy (most common usage in the
US). Went back and changed using the drop down box - selected the
most appropriate option (dd/MMM/yy). No change. Rebooted. Still did
not run. Matter of fact, nothing ran properly, even the files that
worked just fine before.

 Hmm

The error indicates that it is a problem with date formats. I thought
we had fixed the issue of the graphing routines so that they can
handle different date formats. What is the date format as specified in
your Regional Settings in the Control Panel in Windows? Is it
different to dd/mm/yyyy??

I am a new user and just made a clean install of version 7.1 (windows
xp). Started through some example files using the documentation.
Other than a few differences from the old documentation (no "global"
components for example) everything went according to plan until I ran
some simulations and then tried to insert an XY (or any other) graph.

I've finally reproduced your problem. It is a nasty internal bug
caused by lucerne only when run for about 25 years or more. I've
repaired it and we'll probably put up a developmental build next week
some time (towards the end of the week). I can't think of a workaround
for you unfortunately, short of shortening your simulation length.
