About the Roll Call...
Well guys, we had 19 people show up for the roll call thread, what do y'all think? Should we start a *come home for the holidays* thread or not? We've only had 37 posts on ASHM this month, a year ago we had 220, which is better than 37 but not even close to 1445 in 2002 and 3563 in 1998...just to give you an idea of where we're at (sigh).... more »

Interesting thing on WebMD about chronic pain
[link] yourself a favor and go straight to the print version to avoid thosehideous moving ads.)Well, sigh.... Only a passing mention of migraines. I wish they'd pay moreattention to headaches when they're talking about chronic pain. But therewas something in this article that caught my eye."There's new understanding, too, of a process called "centralsensitization," says Kwai-Tung Chan, MD, a pain specialist and professor ofphysical medicine and rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine inHouston. "If initial pain from an injury is not adequately treated, thosepain signals are sent repeatedly -- which leads to changes in the centralnervous system, making it more and more sensitive. Over time, even thegentlest touch can become very painful."I've always felt that the more chronic pain we experience the more sensitivewe become to various stimuli and other sources of pain. There are times Ifeel like one giant exposed nerve. So here's an expert opinion to supportthat. What do you think?Martha... more »

Am I the only one getting slammed?
Besides Cindy.... This is like the 5th one in 2-1/2 weeks and each one lasts two or three days. Some are unresponsive to any kind of drug. A couple I fended off with triptans but they always come back hours later and triptans only work for me at the beginning of a headache. Taking a second dose within... more »

Additive triggers - it's likely to be a bad head week
  1) Significant drop in the barometric pressure (0.3") yesterday 2) Chill yesterday and due to be 15 degrees F warmer today 3) Older dog got skunked. (The puppy thought about running away from the skunk but couldn't resist chasing his big sister.) The elder was allowed inside (not my decision) until the puppy was retrieved (he'd tied his leash... more »
