When we think about having a drink, we're thinking of the kick we get out of drinking, the pleasure, the escape from boredom, the feeling of self-importance and the companionship of other drinkers. What we don't think of is the letdown, the hangover, the remorse, the waste of money, and the facing of another day. In other words, when we think about that first drink, we're thinking of all the assets of drinking and none of the liabilities. What has drinking really got that we haven't got in A.A.? Do I believe that the liabilities of drinking outweigh the assets?
Meditation For The Day
I will start a new life each day. I will put the old mistakes away and start anew each day.

Jim, do we need to take up a collection for you? Something tells me you seriously need to get laid. Doesn't Montreal have a hooker raffle meeting somewhere?

Yeah, me too, moreso than I'd discuss here. But needing it doesn't make it happen. Drinking gave me one advantage: Being where there are actualy single women. Women in AA, few, far between, swarmed by "old-timers" and mostly married anyway. Pretty dismal, at least around here!

I never found meetings to be a great place to meet potential bfs. For starters, it was too distracting and kept me from focusing on sobriety at the meeting.. Furthermore, a lot of sickos go to AA. A lot of great people go there too, but very often its the nuts who are doing the cruising. The good news is that there are other places where single women go besides bars and AA meetings. Running or biking groups (if you are so inclined) seem to be good places to meet women - a lot of sober people run and bike and its a different context than a meeting. Other options might include reading or writing groups, contra dancing, whatever. There is an entire world out there where not everyone is getting drunk. Amazing, huh?

At my age I don't think free pussy is very ahhm tasty/ Of course for that matter the paid for version might be a bit tainted too. Hmm.. Is it true that the Japs don't get the smell, cos of all the raw fish they eat :)

Yeah, I suppose it does take some getting off the couch. I've been in such a financial panic the last few years, it's totally occupied all space in my head. But, it might always be that way, so I have to squeeze some place for singles activities. Now in my 50s, the options are dwindling. I did belong to a "light" hiking group a few years back. Had fun for a while until it dwindled into a "four people in their 60s and me" group.

The hooker raffles were in Alberta which is home to tight-arsed Protestants. Here in what used to be Catholic Quebec, the members service each other for fun and for free. This is one of the benefits of freedom from religious constraints.
Any body hear from Lech or is he off organizing a raffle? Jimbo

Stuart, here in Edmonton, used to keep in contract with Lech. Lech, who I met once, felt threatened by my sobriety.

Actually, his description of the meeting didn't mention your sobriety. His description was limited to one word. "Asshole."

Once again, he felt threatened, hence his name-calling.
