Subject: Nikon D3000 question
I have a D3000 and wanted to be able to hook my camera up to my laptop
(running Windows 7) and be able to have it automatically show me my
photos as I take them.  There are remote control packages available,
and I'm trying them out.  However, Windows will recognize my camera
and allows me to download photos and stuff like that, but the remote
control software does not recognize my camera.  Wondering if anyone
has any ideas for me.

The only remote capture software I found which listed the Nikon D3000 was
some hairshirt open source effort. Unfortunately, it only runs on Unix like
operating systems so that involves another level of faffing around.

Nikon claims their software works, but for some reason it won't see
the camera.  I guess I'll try to get in touch with Nikon

The Canon software (that we get for free with the camera, nyark nyark:-)
is very sensitive to the quality of the USB link. If I replace the
Canon-sanctioned USB cable by some random one (especially the one for by
graphic tablet) I won't work (I suspect the one for the graphic tablet
is only designed to support USB 1.1 rates). I would not be surprised if
Nikons behaved the same way.
