Come on now...either Jerry is just messing with your head or... ;)
As far as me, a gallon of milk costs only $1 more than a half-gallon....so I
keep on buying the gallons. Sometimes it lasts long enough to use
completely but sometimes it goes bad by the half-gallon mark. I just need
to eat more cereal once I buy a new gallon?

Sorry, Jerry... I was generalizing about the amounts of milk both
before and after switching to half gallon containers. I should have
been more specific. When we bought milk by the gallon, we could no
longer finish the gallon before it went bad. By switching to half
gallon containers we almost always finish the half gallon before it

away more than we drink" part altogether:(
One time (in another group) some one asked for a use for a large amount
of oranges and i took the time to type up some various orange marmalade

Example: you buy a gallon. You use half a gallon in, say, a week.
By that time, the rest of the gallon is already a week old so it's
downhill from there.
If you buy a half gallon, it's gone by the end of the week. Bingo -
you buy fresh.

I have to agree with the poster who suggested buying milk in smaller
containers - 1 quart or 1 litre (in Canada milk is sold by the litre)
If you have to buy larger amounts, why not freeze some? You could save some
jugs from previously discarded milk - wash them out.....then perhaps freeze
1/2 the milk - this makes more economical sense to me rather than throwing

Er...Jerry, the half that was drinkable was gone and the other half of
the gallon continues to deteriorate just cause its not gone
I switched to quarts of milk for the same reason, i couldn't use up a
half gallon quickly enough to keep a portion of it from going bad.
I used to do a lot more baking and elaborate cooking than i do these
