Subject: Concept of Ownership
I run a few sites, one of them is quite popular for its online
academic software. A few weeks back I was searching the internet when
I found a couple of forums where someone posted messages referring to
my sites as theirs. I reside in Pakistan yet my site has its audience
in US. The forums that posted the messages are run by other Pakistani
people who do not seem to understand that whats mine is not theirs.

Can I complain to some authority so people don't do things like that

OK I'm not one of the 'big guns' here so get a second opinion
but I saw your post and thought I would offer my view:
I would make reference back to the forums you mention and site
your WHOIS data as the owner of said site. cut n paste if required.
I do know that some of the 'big guns' here will ask that you post your
web site URL OK? hope that helps

Hi Dexter

Steve's right... the best place to start would probably be the forum
you found the bogus posts in. Complain to the moderators, prove
ownership and assert yourself.

On top of that, it might also be an idea to set up a Google alert on
your domain so you're notified as soon as it's referenced by someone.
That way you're not just stumbling around blindly, but letting the
might of Google do your legwork for you. All you have to do when you
get an alert email is to click the link and go check it out.

Cheers

Sasch

There is another question about reconsideration of page ranking by
google for my site
I made a mistake of uploading individual product pages that amounted
to 12000+, it brought the google referrals to naught. I depend on
google referrals for my visitors. Anyone can tell how to get the page
ranking back. I have removed the book pages

Don't yell if sound naive. I just subscribed to an alert. Is there a
way in Gmail to route these alerts to a specific folder?

You have to set up a filter and a label based on something  that's
common to all of them - say "Google alerts" in the from field.

Hi Steve

What you do is log onto your Google account, goto MyAccount & then
Alerts. It talks you through things from there.

URL is: google.com/alerts

As for Gmail folders, that's not naive at all. I don't have a clue how
to do it... Why aren't you using Outlook or Thunderbird or WindowsMail
or something?

Anyhoo... I'm sure the nice people in the Gmail Help Group will be
able to tell you how to do it. ;-)

You can't make folders as such in Gmail. But you can apply labels to
messages based on filters and you have all the label listed in the
sidebar, which amounts to having a folder under that label.
