I have had this trouble for days now and cannot figure out why. I
have tried to upload an html and add a meta tag (which shows up on my
front page). My website is http://salenook.com and any help would be
great. Thanks in advance!
I'm not real sure what your question is, but I see a verification META
tag in your HTML: <meta name="verify-v1" content="2iCS4sn4i/

Sorry about not being more specific, but for the last few days no
matter if I try verifying my site for webmaster tools via meta tag or
html I get the error "Our system has experienced a temporary problem."

I have gotten it for about a week now, however, I was able to
successfully uploaded a sitemap to webmaster tools, but I cannot do
anything else with it. I was wondering what might be the problem?
I'm having the same problem with http://www.edgestudios.com. I've
tried both META and HTML the past few days and receive the same "Our
system has experienced a temporary problem" error. Alternatively, I
directed Google to my sitemap on the website and it found it without
issue. I'm curious if something isn't wrong with the verification
tool.
salenook, can you try verifying with your meta tag again? It looks
like we might have had trouble reaching your site for a bit there.
Also, could you remove the hidden text on the bottom of your pages?
That would be very appreciated :-).
originalmatt, I can't open your site at all at the moment. Perhaps the
verification system is running into similar issues? If so, you might
want to check with your hoster to see if there's anything blocking our
access.
JohnMu, that's strange. I see in the logs where Google Sitemaps
accesses the website each time I click the "Verify" link. I've tried
Opera and Firefox on WinXP and Safari and Firefox on Mac. No problems
connecting. You on Linux? It's the only OS I haven't tried. Here is
the log entries created by Google but still fails to validate. It's
returning the proper HTTP Status codes. I'm going to dig through the
firewall as well.
I'm using Firefox 3 on Windows XP, but I see the same issues when I
use "wget" from my Linux workstation, so it doesn't appear to be tied
to the browser or operating system. Here's what I see in the shell
when I use wget:
I'm just using 240 seconds as an example timeout here (I don't know
what the Googlebot uses :-)). This might be something you would want
to look into, even if you can see the verification access in your log
files.
I'm also having troubles verifying one of our sites. I've been trying
for at least 3 months to verify the site www.archx.eu. I have no
problems verifying other sites, but this one always gives the well
known "Our system has experienced a temporary problem."-error.
In general, your website should allow for all browsers to access it.
If you are worried that a user might be having a sub-optimal
experience due to his choice of browser, I would recommend adjusting
your website accordingly :-) or, at the very least, giving the user a
warning but still allowing him to attempt to use the website. Without
being able to access your website, the Webmaster Tools verification
system is most likely going to fail as well.
JohnMu, it looks like our firewall IDS/IPS was dropping the traffic in
these cases. I'm unsure as to why at this point. However, I was able
to isolate Google IP traffic and lower the IDS/IPS rule set
accordingly, which finally allowed me to successfully Verify. I'll
post my findings as to what may be causing the IDS/IPS system to
trigger a false positive. I'm curious if it isn't related to a new
threat. Thank you for your help!
