I have been doing a bit of work on a translator's site (simple HTML
site, no database) and installed analytics on all pages. Some of these
pages are in French and German. Having uploaded the files with the
analytics code some of the accents and umlauts did not display
correctly showing an odd jumble of characters instead. Uploading the
original files w/out the analytics code put everything back as it was.
Does anyone have any experience of this and if so how can it be
overcome so as to get Google analytics stats from these pages too?

Maybe if you provide the URLs of the affected pages someone can check
these for you.

It's likely something like DOCTYPE or character encoding.
