Hi all,
The Melbourne Council received the report from the Swanston St consultation
process today and there was unanimous acceptance of Option 6 (Moreland BUG's
preferred option), with a few comments made about the need to make sure
issues around bike/pedestrian interaction are resolved.
This is great news for anyone who walks or rides along Swanston St, which
carries more cyclists than any other street in Victoria.
The recommendation from Management, adopted by Council, was:
2. That Council:
2.1. note the outcomes of the community engagement program;
2.2. establish an inter-agency Steering Group to investigate the principle
design directions
outlined in Option 6 and to oversee the development of the Swanston Street
redevelopment
project plan; and
2.3. request that the project plan and related outcomes be presented to the
October Connected
City Committee Meeting.
So, the next step will be for Council to set up the Steering Group, which
will report back with a project plan in October.
Moreland BUG will stay in contact with Melbourne BUG on this issue, and take
any opportunity to be involved in further development of the project.
Cheers,
Anna Strempel
